The Next Level
Brand History
Sega was originally founded in 1940 as “Standard Games” in Honolulu, Hawaii. The company was then moved to Tokyo, Japan by Raymond Lemaire and Richard Stewart as a means of distributing coin-operated games. The company was renamed “Service Games” in honor of the focus of providing entertainment to the military. Subsequently, the company would become Sega, an abbreviation of SErvice GAmes.
Sega grew to provide entertainment for mass audiences and would soon become an immediate competitor to Nintendo by manufacturing video game consoles and coming up with their own iconic mascot Sonic the Hedgehog. Today, Sega is recognized for its video game consoles, creativity, and innovations.
